Supporting you

before & after baby.

Your Birth Maid Logo (White).png

Hi, I'm Ruth.

I am always broody, I decided to turn my passion into a job! I am the proud mum of three gorgeous ones and married to my hardworking husband Ben. Together we are passionate about family, we enjoy our children and strive to create the right environment at home for us all to flourish in. I love homemade food, coffee, heart to hearts, sewing and nurturing others.

When I discovered I could actually use my passions to help and support women during pregnancy and birth, I couldn't quite believe it! I trained with Nurturing Birth in 2016 and this began my journey to become a Doula.

My Story

I have had a natural birth and caesareans. I have breastfed and bottle fed. I have felt great after and have felt low. I have thrived some days and felt overwhelmed others. I have slept with my babies in bed and also put them in the nursery to bed. I have carried them in a sling and put them in a buggy. Some days I eat too much, others not enough. I've used cloth and disposable nappies. Sometimes they get bathed everyday, others not for a week! Sometimes I am so happy at the end of the day, others I just need to sleep.

What I have thrived on is my need to chat about how I am, to recieve small offers of help, to have kind encouraging words spoken over me, someone holding my babies so I could have a nap, enjoying a shower without a crying baby in the background, not having to cook tea and someone running the hoover round.

Being your doula, I want to be present whilst blending into your background. Its all about you and I want to nurture you and empower you to feel confident in your decisions and your mothering instinct from pregnancy to birth to settling back into home life with your beautiful addition. My hope is to empower you to be the best mother that you can be and so you are happy and confident with your choices to flourish in your family life.

What I can offer?

Lets have a chat about you. Hows your pregnancy? What are your hopes and fears? What can I offer as a doula to support you throughout your pregnancy. We can write a birth wish list together and talk about labour, pain relief options, breastfeeding, breathing techniques in labour and how you are feeling about becoming a mother. I am also available to attend hospital appointments should you need me with you, light housework, and other things- just ask!

I will be on call from 38-42 weeks from your due date. As soon as you need me I can be with you and support you and your partner in your labour. My role here would be helping set the environment, reminding you of all we have discussed in previous meet ups, massaging during contractions, encouraging you to drink and conserve energy, look after you when your partner steps out the room (or has a nap), translating medical jargon and continuously supporting you. I stay til when you need me no more, and can help with bathing, transferring to the post natal ward, starting to breast feed, tidying up and settling you into bed (if a home-birth  and generally being available and present til you feel comfortable. This also includes unlimited contact by email and phone during the on call period.

I will happily come and visit you in hospital or home. We will chat about your birth, how you are feeling, how feeding is going and your hopes and dreams. Can I help you with some light housework, care for your baby while you nap, or entertain your toddler for an hour? Please ask!

“Ruth supported us so we could get our  baby into a sleep routine at a time when we were all really struggling in a fog of tiredness. I can’t thank Ruth enough!”
